I am a 1996 graduate of Lake Area Technical College in Watertown, SD with a degree in Building Trades Technology. I have owned and operated a construction contracting business for over 25 years and am still in the construction business. My first construction project as an independent contractor was a small storage shed build in 1995. Since then I have built new homes, garages, post frame buildings, performed extensive roofing work, poured concrete, built cabinets, assembled steel structures, and completed large and small remodel projects.
Through my construction career I began to notice that my clients were in many cases people who had purchased the home in the previous 12 months or less. I found myself fixing serious and expensive problems with these people's homes and asked them how they didn't know of the problem when they bought the home. The answer was always some variation of, "My realtor told me the house has been taken very good care of" or "I had a home inspection performed by the person that my realtor said is the best". Although most realtors are very honest and straight forward, those experiences led me to get into home inspection as a truly independent home inspector, reliant upon nobody but you, the home buyer. I do not rely on home inspections as a means of making a living. This means that I cannot be intimidated into performing an inspection that is not as thorough as possible, for you, my client.
I was trained at InterNACHI, and easily passed the home inspector certification test with the South Dakota Real Estate Commission to become a licensed home inspector. I complete annual continuing education classes as required by South Dakota Codified Law.
